Bloat can be a good thing
Burned up some significant disk space last night. Almost 10 gig, but added the entire Firefly series and some great (and some good but cheesy) movies.
You know where to look. J submitted by Donald Little (Junior) on Thursday September 4, 2008 at 11:34 pm
Webmail Update
I have updated the version of our webmail system (SquirrelMail). A number of bugs should be fixed, and there are some subtle new features that you may notice.
If you see anything out of place, or even remotely weird, don't hesitate to let me know. Thanks, and enjoy. J submitted by Donald Little (Junior) on Thursday September 4, 2008 at 10:36 am

Radio City
Pop and I are putting together a radio transmitter kit. It will eventually be hooked up to my whole house audio so that things like radio alarm clocks and portable radios at the house can receive the same signal as the speakers in the walls. Fun stuff, and a good first step to refining my skills on the road to building a remote control for the whole house audio system. My dad has years (okay, let's just be honest and say decades) of experience with this kind of thing, and it is a blast working on the project. You can keep track of the progress here: FM Transmitter I'll get better at taking the close up photos so that the glare will be reduced. There will still be a number of assembly days left, so stay tuned (hehe). J submitted by Donald Little (Junior) on Tuesday September 2, 2008 at 9:42 pm

Yes, we all know that email Spam completely sucks. If you have an email account on JAJ there is a process on the server that checks all incoming messages to see if they might be spam. However, we have to be careful not to crank up the sensitivity too high, or it starts labeling things incorrectly. I know that everyone has been getting a few more Spam messages in their Inbox recently. I do just about everything I can, but there has been an influx of messages that are hard to identify over the past couple months. I will continue to be as proactive as I can in holding these back.
Just for the sake of a bit of trivia, here are a few statistics. Incoming messages per day: ~10000 Incoming messages identified as UBER spam and thrown in the garbage automatically by the server per day: ~5000 Incoming messages flagged as possible spam and delivered to your spam folders per day: ~4000 Incoming messages which sneak past the spam filters to your Inboxes per day: ~500 Incoming messages which are legitimate per day: ~500 A pretty sad state of affairs if you ask me, considering that there are only about 30 real email users on the system. Oops.
Okay, NOW the contact system will send out birthday notices correctly. I had made a mistake in my code and birthday notices were suspect. All better now.
Also, you should have a new link called "Upcoming Birthdays". This will show you the birthdays coming up in the next 3 months, ordered by birthday. J submitted by Donald Little (Junior) on Wednesday August 27, 2008 at 6:35 pm

Musical
I have sated my music habit for another month, I think.
15 or so new albums to peruse. J submitted by Donald Little (Junior) on Thursday August 21, 2008 at 4:51 pm

Birthday Notices
The Contacts system will now send out birthday notices to you about upcoming birthdays.
If you have your email address set in your profile info (available on the left menu), you will get a notification about birthdays seven days away, and about birthdays happening today. Enjoy! J submitted by Donald Little (Junior) on Wednesday August 13, 2008 at 12:34 pm

New Feature - Contact List
Have you ever wanted to have a contact list that was easy to access and update? Well, now you can (hehe). I have added a feature to JAJ to provide a contact list.
- Each user has their own private contact list - Birthdays can be recorded for each contact - A 100% guarantee that no-one but you will EVER see any item on the list - The list, being web based, is accessible from almost anywhere - Each contact can have an arbitrary number of phone numbers and email addresses - The list, like the rest of JAJ, is backed up regularly Features in the works: - Reminders sent to you about birthdays - A "notes" section for whatever extras you need The only requirement to access your private contact list is an account here. Pretty much anyone reading this probably already has one. Let me know if you need login assistance. J submitted by Donald Little (Junior) on Tuesday August 5, 2008 at 11:48 am

Performance
Hello all,
There are currently some issues with the internet connection which connects this server to the world. Connectivity is still there, it is just very sloooooooow. This will hopefully be resolved quickly. I will post another quick note once it is back to normal. Thanks for your patience, J submitted by Donald Little (Junior) on Monday July 14, 2008 at 12:32 pm
